Infineon Expands Semiconductor R&D Activities in Hong Kong
Infineon’s expansion in Hong Kong is a boost to the city’s increasing role as the preferred R&D centre in Asia
Infineon, the largest semiconductor company in Germany, offers semiconductor solutions that make life easier, safer and greener. Microelectronics from Infineon address three major challenges to modern society: energy efficiency, mobility and security. Infineon has 34 research and development locations and 19 manufacturing locations worldwide.
In December 2014, the company expanded its R&D activities at Hong Kong Science Park to advance its thermal management solutions for high-power-density applications tailored to the local requirements of the Mainland China and Hong Kong markets. Hong Kong, with its proximity to the key manufacturing base in Pearl River Delta and its strategic location in the region, adds to its appeal for technology companies like Infineon to grow their businesses here.
The new office at the Science Park has the latest facilities to develop effective thermal management solutions that support applications across different industries, including telecommunications, energy storage systems and solar conversion.
Andrew Chong, President and Managing Director of Infineon Technologies Asia Pacific Pte Ltd, said, “Our establishment in the R&D community of the Hong Kong Science Park will enhance our ability to further develop technological innovations that will raise the bar for serving customer and market needs. This will establish our R&D activities in Hong Kong as an essential element of our power management capability in the region.”
