Long-established German Bank Going from Strength to Strength

There are around 100 staff in the Hong Kong office. According to Eberhard Brodhage, Country CEO Hong Kong, the talent pool in Hong Kong is very strong but competitive. “I am very impressed with the can-do attitude, flexibility and thriving for opportunities mindset in this city. These are exactly the mindsets that make Hong Kong a cosmopolitan city full of energy,” he added. “Being a sustainable employer, we have been successfully recruiting and retaining the top talent.”

Commerzbank set up a representative office in Mainland China since 1981. In 1994, Shanghai branch was opened and received a full Renminbi license in 2000. The branch network has since expanded to Beijing and Tianjin. The bank has now established six branches in Asia and continues to seek business opportunities in the region and follows where their customers are.

Having lived in Hong Kong for eight years, Brodhage enjoys the city life as it is centrally located and well connected to other places in Asia. In addition, the German and European communities have expanded substantially in the past few years and he sees a tremendous growth in trade and investment business in the city.

“My advice to any new business who plans to come to Hong Kong is to speak to professionals, chambers of commerce and the banks to get things right from the start. Leverage on the plenty of opportunities in this very welcoming city – Hong Kong,” Brodhage concluded.
