Art Basel Hong Kong (28-30 March)

Record High Numbers of Companies and Start-Ups Affirm Hong Kong's Increasing Attractiveness to Businesses
The number of companies in Hong Kong with overseas or Mainland parent companies rose to 9,960 in 2024, while the number of start-ups in Hong Kong rose to 4,694, both increased by 10 percent from last year, reaching record highs. The results demonstrate that Hong Kong is becoming increasingly attractive to businesses and remains an ideal place for Mainland and overseas enterprises to set up or expand their operations.

Mega Events Set for First Half of 2025
At least 93 mega events will be held in Hong Kong in the first half of 2025 with an estimate of approximately 840,000 tourists who would participate. Their spending is estimated to be about HK$3.3 billion, bringing about HK$1.8 billion in value added to the Hong Kong economy. The Government will continue to take a proactive role in promoting and attracting different mega events to Hong Kong.

Northern Metropolis Pilot Areas Unveiled
The Government has announced the details of the three pilot areas of large-scale land disposal in the Northern Metropolis - the Hung Shui Kiu/Ha Tsuen New Development Area, the Fanling North New Development Area and the San Tin Technopole, launching a three-month exercise in December 2024 to invite interested parties to submit expressions of interest for the three pilot areas to finalise the tender details and conditions later.

The Signing of the Second Agreement Concerning Amendment to CEPA Agreement on Trade in Services
The Second Amendment Agreement of CEPA introduced new liberalisation measures across different service sectors, making it easier for Hong Kong service suppliers to establish enterprises and develop business on the Mainland. For the film and TV industry, the agreement removes restrictions on Hong Kong service providers' investment in Mainland film production and allows Hong Kong-made dramas to be broadcast during prime time in the Mainland.
