The 52nd Hong Kong Arts Festival
(22 February - 22 March)

The 52nd Hong Kong Arts Festival will present more than 150 performances across 45 programmes. There will be over 350 plus outreach and education events. To mark the opening and finale of the Festival, two award-winning performances, Bayerische Staatsoper's "Ariadne auf Naxos" and Shanghai Ballet's "A Sigh of Love", will be presented.

Art Basel Hong Kong (28-30 March)

Art Basel Hong Kong returns to full scale with a 2024 edition featuring 243 premier international galleries from 40 countries and territories, a 37 percent increase in exhibitor numbers compared to 2023 that marks a return to the show’s pre-pandemic scale. Art Central (28-31 March)

Art Central showcases the next generation of talent from Asia’s most innovative galleries alongside distinguished artists from around the world. The fair will return to its home on Hong Kong’s iconic Central Harbourfront in 2024. The upcoming edition will be staged in an architect-designed, purpose-built structure overlooking Victoria Harbour, conveniently situated in the heart of the city’s business district.

Government announces details of the new Capital Investment Entrant Scheme (CIES)

The 2023-24 Budget set out that a new CIES would be introduced with a view to further enriching the talent pool and attracting more new capital to Hong Kong. The new CIES will accept applications from eligible persons aged 18 or above (including foreign nationals, Chinese nationals who have obtained permanent resident status in a foreign country, Macao Special Administration Region residents and Chinese residents of Taiwan). An applicant must make an investment of a minimum of HK$30 million in the permissible investment assets. The Government aims to officially launch the new CIES and invite applications in mid-2024.

Cyberport launched 'Web3 Proof-of-Concept Subsidy Scheme'

To encourage collaboration between Web3 companies and enterprises, Cyberport launched the 'Web3 Proof-of-Concept Subsidy Scheme' to nurture potential Web3 Proof-of-Concept (PoC) projects and accelerate the application of Web3 technology in various industries in Hong Kong. The Scheme will provide early-stage funding to locally registered companies or research institutions which engage in Web3 or mainstream technologies. Each approved project will receive a subsidy of up to HK$150,000. Application will close on 29 February 2024.

Hong Kong’s initiatives to attract talent

In his 2023 Policy Address, Chief Executive John Lee outlined initiatives to attract more talent to Hong Kong. These include:
• Foreign staff of companies registered in Hong Kong may apply with the Chinese Visa Application Service Centre in Hong Kong for "multiple-entry visas" valid for two or more years to the Mainland, enjoying priority processing.
• Established the physical office of the Hong Kong Talent Engage (HKTE) to provide support for talent arriving in Hong Kong.
• Under the Vocational Professionals Admission Scheme, starting with the cohort admitted in 2024/25, non-local students on full-time professional Higher Diploma programmes designated by the Vocational Training Council will be allowed to stay in Hong Kong for one year after graduation to seek jobs relevant to their disciplines.

Hong Kong rolls out Red Carpet For Art

Hong Kong has developed a vibrant cultural ecosystem, and with ambitious government initiatives well underway, it is set to reach new heights as a global arts powerhouse. Hong Kong’s estimated expenditure on promoting arts, cultural and creative industries in 2023-24 is about HK$6.8 billion. Christie’s Art & Sustainability Forum 2023

Christie’s Hong Kong presented the Art & Sustainability Forum on 27 November during its marquee Autumn Auctions in 2023. Aiming to foster dialogues around sustainability in the arts, with influential voices from the West Kowloon Cultural District’s M+ Museum, Zaha Hadid Architects, COLLECTIVE, Henderson Land, and Uniseal Global, the half-day event featured six presentations and two panel discussions, presenting insights from industry thought leaders, exploring how artistic and creative solutions can drive positive environmental change.
