Expression of Interest in Tendering for WKCD - ACE (Art, Commerce and Exhibitions) Project

West Kowloon Cultural District (WKCD) is seeking EOIs for the ACE project, which is to include an exhibition centre set in a vibrant downtown art district, a hotel and rental offices together with embedded retail/dining/entertainment (RDE) facilities.

The Box Opens at West Kowloon Cultural District

The long-awaited contemporary performance venue, The Box, opened in June at the new Freespace facility of the West Kowloon District. Freespace offers a dynamic space for arts and cultural events, and is a new platform for artistic experimentation and exploration with both indoor and outdoor performing venues. Apart from The Box, The Room and The Studio are two multi-purpose spaces designed to be used for creative exchange and artistic collaborations.

BAFTA Launches Breakthrough Initiative

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) is a global identifier and supporter of new talent. This year, BAFTA will support up to five outstanding breakthrough talents. Winners will receive a yearlong programme of support from BAFTA.

Asia Pacific Interior Design Awards 2019 – Call for Entries

APIDA is organised by Hong Kong Interior Design Association (HKIDA) since 1992. It aims to recognise outstanding interior design projects and designers, and promote professional standards and ethics among interior design practices. APIDA is open to design practices and individuals who have completed projects all over the world.

HSBC launches GBA+ Technology Fund

HSBC is launching a US$880 million GBA+ Technology Fund focused on supporting fast-growing technology companies in the Greater Bay Area. The fund will provide senior debt financing to high-growth companies in sectors including e-commerce, FinTech, robotics, biotech and healthcare technology.
 
Film Industry to be Bolstered
 
In April, the Government welcomed the Central Authorities’ five relaxation measures to further facilitate the entry of Hong Kong films and film practitioners into the Mainland market:
  1. remove the restriction on the number of Hong Kong people participating in Mainland film productions
  2. lift the limit on the percentage of Hong Kong artistes and requirement of Mainland-related plots in films jointly produced by the two places
  3. waive the fees for establishing co-production projects
  4. allow Hong Kong films and film practitioners to participate in Mainland film festivals
  5. allow Hong Kong film companies to apply for incentives for distributing and promoting outstanding Mainland motion pictures and Mainland-Hong Kong co-productions in Hong Kong, Macao and overseas.

 
ASEAN-Hong Kong, China Free Trade Agreement Enters into Force

The ASEAN – Hong Kong, China Free Trade Agreement (AHKFTA) enters into force on 11 June 2019, for Hong Kong and five ASEAN Member States, namely, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand and Viet Nam.

Kai Tak Sports Ground Construction Began

Chief Executive Mrs. Carrie Lam hosted the groundbreaking ceremony on 23 April for the HK$30 billion project. The 28-hectare Kai Tak Sports Park – to be opened in 2023 boasts a 50,000-seat main stadium, a 10,000-seat indoor sports centre, a 5,000-seat public sports ground and other facilities such as a dining cove and retail areas.
