Opening of the Hong Kong Palace Museum

The inauguration of the Hong Kong Palace Museum at West Kowloon Cultural District marks one of the major celebrations for the city’s 25th anniversary of the handover. For the first time Hong Kong will witness an unprecedented showcase of more than 900 historical relics loaned from Beijing’s Palace Museum, in which 166 pieces are classified grade one national treasures, with some being its public debut. To further cultural interchange between China and the West, there will be 13 art works loaned from Paris' Louvre Museum and be on display.

World Investment Report 2022- Hong Kong Maintained the Third Position of FDI Inflows in 2021
 
Hong Kong maintained the third position of FDI inflows in 2021, according to the recently released The World Investment Report by United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTD). Hong Kong’s inward FDI stock as at the end of 2021 was US$2,022 billion, again being the fifth largest destination for inward direct investment globally. Hong Kong's outward FDI stock as at the end of 2021 was US$2,082 billion, becoming the seventh largest investor economy.

World Competitiveness Yearbook (WCY) 2022 - Hong Kong was Ranked Fifth Most Competitive Economy in 2021
 
In the latest World Competitiveness Yearbook (WCY) 2022 published by the International Institute for Management Development (IMD), Hong Kong was ranked fifth globally, up from seventh last year. Hong Kong continued to rank favourably in "Government efficiency", "Business efficiency”, and showed a great improvement in “Economic performance" and "Infrastructure”. As regards the sub-factors, Hong Kong maintained top ranking in "Business legislation", and was amongst the top-three in "Public finance", "Tax policy" and "International investment".

Government Launches Pilot Scheme on Immigration Facilitation for Visitors Participating in Short-term Activities in Designated Sectors

The pilot scheme aims to facilitate business and raise Hong Kong's international profile, covering 10 sectors including the creative industries, art and culture. Under the Pilot Scheme, host organisations authorised by the relevant government bureaux/departments can issue invitation letters to relevant non-local talent in their sectors. Invited persons may come to Hong Kong to participate in designated short-term activities as visitors, without the need to apply for employment visas/entry permits from the Immigration Department. Invited non-local talent may participate in the designated short-term activities for up to 14 days upon each arrival, and receive remuneration for the designated activities concerned.

China to Encourage Foreign Investment in More Industries

China will further expand the industry catalog of sectors encouraging foreign investment. The new list will add 238 more items, while up to 114 existing ones will be modified with expansion, as announced by the China's National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Commerce (MOC). It will add professional design, technical services, and development in the producer services sector. Other new items added to the national-level sub-catalog will include components and parts and equipment manufacturing in the manufacturing sector.
