Hong Kong Book Fair (17-23 July)

As the city's biggest literature event, Hong Kong Book Fair will take place in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Close to 780 exhibitors from 36 countries and regions participated in the Fair last year, attracting nearly 1 million visitors. From books to fiction to biographies to children's books, the Fair also features a string of cultural activities.

ART021 Hong Kong (28 August - 8 September)

Founded in Shanghai in 2013, ART021 debuts its first edition of ART021 Hong Kong Contemporary Art Fair this August. Hong Kong Retains Top APAC Spot for Ease of Doing Business

Hong Kong maintained its top position as the least complex jurisdiction for doing business in APAC, TMF Group reported. The city improved its ranking in the 2024 Global Business Complexity Index (GBCI) which analyses 79 jurisdictions based on many indicators including incorporation timelines, payroll and benefits, rules, regulations, tax rates, and other compliance factors.

Hong Kong Rose to Rank Fifth in
World Competitiveness Yearbook 2024

In the latest World Competitiveness Yearbook (WCY) 2024 published by the International Institute for Management Development (IMD), Hong Kong's ranking improved by two places to fifth globally. Among the four competitiveness factors in the WCY 2024, Hong Kong's rankings in "Business efficiency" and "Infrastructure" rose notably to the top 10 globally. Hong Kong also topped the rankings in "International trade" and "Business legislation", and was among the global top five in "Tax policy", "International investment", "Basic infrastructure", "Finance" and "Education".

Hong Kong Tourism Board Seals 3-year Deal
with Art Basel to Showcase City on World Stage

The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) has sealed a three-year partnership with Art Basel, the first such organisation to strike a deal with the exhibitor, promoting Hong Kong on a global stage. The annual art fair, which originated in Basel, Switzerland in 1970, was extended to Miami Beach in 2002, Hong Kong in 2013 – its only Asian location – and Paris in 2022. As a show partner, HKTB will take part in all four annual fairs over the next three years, starting from Art Basel Paris in October.

Hong Kong Ranked Fourth in Foreign Direct Investment Inflows

According to the World Investment Report 2024, Hong Kong’s Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) inflows in 2023 increased by 2.7 percent to US$113 billion and maintained the fourth position, after the US, Mainland China, and Singapore. Meanwhile, Hong Kong’s inward FDI stock as at end-2023 was US$2,107 billion and was again the sixth largest destination for inward direct investment globally. Hong Kong’s ranking in terms of FDI outflows in 2023 improved one place to the fifth position, after the US, Japan, Mainland China, and Switzerland.

Over 100 Mega Events to Be Held in The Second Half of The Year

Over 100 mega events will be held in Hong Kong in the second half of the year, making the total number of mega events over the year increase from 150 to over 210. The mega events are expected to attract 1.7 million visitors, bringing with them HK$7.2 billion - which is HK$4.3 billion in economic gain for Hong Kong. The events include competitive ball games – some of which have never been held in Hong Kong or Asia before. The Hong Kong Tourism Board is also assisting large-scale European exhibitions to be held in Hong Kong.
