Asia+ Festival (October - November 2023)

The first Asia+ Festival will focus on Asia and to celebrate the cultural diversity of the Belt and Road regions. Hong Kong to Host First Hong Kong Performing Arts Expo (14-18 October 2024)

Spearheaded by The Hong Kong Arts Development Council, Hong Kong will host its first international trade expo on performing arts, the Hong Kong Performing Arts Expo, which will take place in October 2024, aiming to connect industry players from around the world. Immediately after the Expo, Hong Kong will host the 2024 Greater Bay Area Culture and Arts Festival. Participants can enjoy the high-level offerings of arts groups from the Mainland and worldwide, while at the same time exploring the possibility of tapping into the Greater Bay Area market, as well as further understanding the Chinese culture and promoting cultural exchanges between China and the rest of the world.

Call for Entries - The Hong Kong Designers Association Brand Design Awards 2024

East Kowloon Culture Hub to Open in Phases Starting End 2023

The East Kowloon Cultural Centre in Ngau Tau Kok is expected to open in phases starting from the end of this year or early next year. Located across Kowloon Bay MTR station, the 2.16-hectare cultural center will be equipped with performing halls for dance, music, and drama programs, as well as an arts-tech lab with innovative stage equipment, such as real-time stage tracking system and 3D projection mapping.

Kau Yi Chau Artificial Islands Public Engagement Report

The Study on the Artificial Islands in the Central Waters in June 2021 mainly comprises a planning and engineering study on the Kau Yi Chau Artificial Islands (KYCAI) and a technical feasibility study on strategic road and rail connecting the artificial islands with other parts of the Territory. Following the Public Engagement (PE) activities from December 2022 to March 2023 to solicit views on the preliminary proposals for four aspects of the KYCAI, the report is now published. As the study progresses, there will be PEs at different stages, including during the periods of various statutory procedures.

The Government announced the commencement of the "Night Vibes Hong Kong" activities. Different sectors of the community play their part in staging a wealth of diversified night-time events with local characteristics all over the city starting from mid-September, covering entertainment, arts, culture, consumption and more to create a dynamic vibe for citizens and tourists to feel the vibrancy and energy of Hong Kong's nightlife.

Opening of Hong Kong Science Park Shenzhen Branch Marks New Beginning for Hong Kong-Shenzhen I&T Co-operation

The Hong Kong Science and Technology Park Corporation (HKSTPC) and the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Zone Development Ltd. signed a Framework Agreement in September 2021 with a view to developing the Hong Kong Science Park Shenzhen Branch so that institutes and enterprises interested in starting their business in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) could establish a presence. The Shenzhen Branch comprises two buildings with a total gross floor area of about 31,000 square metres, providing offices, laboratories, co-working spaces, as well as conference and event facilities.

Revitalisation of Pre-war Cinema

The long-abandoned Cheung Chau Cinema, which the government has listed as a Grade III historic building, is being revitalised. A multicultural park next to the cinema was opened end August as part of the first phase, while the cinema’s main block will be turned into a Chinese-themed restaurant and will launch in 2025. The multicultural park created under the first leg of the scheme spans 3,530 square metres and consists of a cultural hub, information centre, piazza and a studio offering activities such as workshops and outdoor film screenings.

Special Visa Arrangement to End

The special arrangement under the COVID-19 pandemic for Hong Kong non-permanent residents outside the city to apply for an extension of stay will be discontinued on 1 January 2024. This means that for the extension of stay applications reaching the department on or after 1 January 2024, the applicants must be physically present in Hong Kong, both at the time of application and the time of collecting the e-Visa for the extension of stay.
